About the Farm

Birdland is a regenerative farm and licensed tier 2 cannabis cultivator located in Athens, Vermont. We're committed to bringing you the very best sun and soil grown cannabis - from farm to friend. By improving the resilience and diversity of the farm's ecosystem, we improve the quality of the product we provide to you. It is our view that mindfully cultivated cannabis should improve the health of the land where it was grown. We do this by improving our native soil with cover cropping, compost, and minimal tillage.

Monocrops are unnatural. Our cannabis grows right alongside our flowers, fruits, and vegetables - creating a vibrant and bountiful garden of food and medicine. We manage habitat to encourage beneficial insects and indigenous microbes and we NEVER use pesticides. By mulching with hay grown on site and utilizing 'living pathways' of clover and rye, we cover the soil with organic matter to prevent erosion and reduce the need for plastics. Add to that our location on the western edge of the Windmill Hill Range, with it's rich sandy loam soils and notorious prohibition-era grows, and the result is true Vermont terroir - cannabis as unique as the Green Moutain State.

​We're proud to be in our third year of cannabis cultivation, and the second year of our very own seed production program. Through our seed program, we work to isolate and combine the best genetics that truly thrive outdoors in our northern New England climate. From hash dumping hybrids to sublime smelling flowers from in-bred lines - we strive to bring you something truly special (learn more about our strains here). About Matt

Matt Shea is the cultivator, owner-operator, and man of most hats here at Birdland. His passion for learning and living with the natural world has led him to fight wildfires, work on farms, maintain trails, volunteer, sleep outside, and travel over mountains by foot in places including Oregon, Hawaii, Alaska, Patagonia, New Zealand, Australia, Central America, Southeast Asia, and best of all - Vermont. He lives with his partner Kelsea and two cats on 55 acres in Athens.
